Introducing Christy

Christi Hansen5 Points Campus meet Christy Hanson.

What do you do at the 5 Points Campus?
I am the Worship Director for our Campus. I plan the song sets for each week and coordinate practices for the musicians and vocalists. I help lead worship on Sundays and I also put together the Power Points for the songs. However, I am only as good as my team and thankfully they are GREAT! I’m so blessed that I get to work with them each week.

Why is what you do important?
What I do is important because I believe worship helps open a person’s heart to receive what God wants to speak to them during the message. When our team puts forth our best efforts on Sunday morning, we are honoring God and helping lead the people into worship.

What’s your day time job?
By day I am the Registrar at Tuloso-Midway Primary School.

When did you start following Christ and what have been some of the spiritual turning points in your life??

I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home. I asked Jesus to be the leader of my life and was baptized when I was 5 years old. Growing up in church, I knew who Jesus was and I loved Him and wanted to serve Him, but I can honestly say that I didn’t begin a serious personal relationship with Him until I was in my early 20′s.
After some rebellious teen years, I found myself 21 and divorced with 2 babies. I knew I had a huge void in my life and deep down inside, I knew that only God could fill it, but I did not seek Him. I spent the next two years searching for love and self worth in everything except Him. Finally, after having another relationship with a non-Christian end, I hit bottom and realized that I had to put God back into my life and make Him first before I would ever truly be happy. A few months after that, the person that had walked away from me came back. This time I told him I couldn’t and wouldn’t compromise my relationship with God to be with him. But the best part was that he had decided he wanted to know God, too. Not long after this, that person (Daniel) became a Christian and my husband. God truly gave me the desires of my heart, only in a way that was so much better than I ever could’ve imagined once my desires matched up with His Will.

What was your reason for helping launch our campus?
The church we had been attending had dissolved so we began attending Bay Area Fellowship’s Corpus Campus. After meeting The Curlee’s and hearing their vision for the 5 Points Campus, we realized that much of it was the same thing we had been trying so hard to do with our former church. We believed in the vision for this campus and couldn’t wait to be a part of it.

If you were an animal…what would you be and why?

If I were an animal, I would want to be one of MY pets — probably one of my dogs. Reason being: My pets are loved, very spoiled and very well cared for.

What is your favorite restaurant?
I really love Mexican food so a hole in the wall place with REAL Mexican food is probably my favorite. However, I do love Johnny Carino’s, too!

Are you a reader or listener?
BOTH! I DO love to read and usually have at least two books going at once, but I also LOVE music and have a very wide range of genres I like to listen to.

Is there one big thing you can tell us that God has done for you in your life?
As a military wife, God has allowed me to be put into situations where I’ve had no choice but to rely on Him. I’ve learned that I can’t plan anything because everything in my life can change (several times over) at the drop of a hat and it’s completely out of my control. But God has shown me that He is true stability. And when my husband was in a war zone and I had no contact with him for days or weeks on end, God showed me that He is the real peace and comfort in my life. God has also been faithful to surround me in every difficult situation with wonderful, faithful, Christian friends and for that I am truly thankful.

What’s your favorite Scripture?
Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

If you could star in a movie what genre would you want it to be?
Historical drama — WWII
I love that generation and I’ve always said I should’ve been alive then.

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
I am fascinated with history and archeology. I’ve always wanted to go in search of ancient places and things — especially things that would prove the Bible was true to the non-believing world. I get a HUGE kick out of visiting very old, historical places. Someday I want to visit Egypt and Israel.

Thanks Christy for all you do at 5 Points….If you would like to get involved with either the band or singing…make sure you see Christy and come out to one of our auditions.

When did you start following Christ and what have been some of the spiritual turning points in your life?? It was over a year ago, at a first Wednesday service, one of the singers on stage was giving his testimony. As I listened, it was like he was talking to me, the words he used, and I felt it was Christ that had come into me. That night, I asked Christ to come into my life.

What was your reason for helping launch our campus? Our Home team was asked to cook for one of the work nights. We stayed and helped for a little bit. Then we all went back another night, and another, and another, etc….and well When God says here you are, This is where I want you, I am not one to say to no to our Father!

If you were an animal…what would you be and why? A sweet loveable fury BigDog!
